Request for permission and obtain a License

All requests for permission to use, and all license payments for, the Karasek Questionnaires (JCQ/JCQ2) and JCQ Center Global courses and consulting services must be submitted through our official website using the online Usage Request Information Form available here: online usage-request-information form

Policies and Informations

The following information describes the general policies and conditions governing the use of JCQ Center Global instruments.

All permissions to use Karasek Questionnaires, Job Content Questionnaire (JCQ / JCQ2), scales, or individual items are granted exclusively through a project-specific license issued by invoice and based on an approved Usage Request Information Form (A–G).

In the event of any inconsistency, the terms stated in the invoice / license confirmation prevail.

License Scope and Purpose

There are usage charges for all Karasek Questionnaires, JCQ / JCQ2, scales, or individual items.

License fees support the scientific maintenance, validation, quality control, and continued development of the instruments, as well as the international community of authorized JCQ users.

Each license is project-specific and limited to the exact:

  • project and licensee,
  • sample size,
  • project period,
  • language version(s),
  • geographic area,
  • and permitted mode of administration,

as specified in the approved Usage Request Information Form (A–G) and confirmed in the invoice.

Grant of Permission

Upon payment and acceptance of the invoice / license confirmation, the User is granted permission to administer the approved JCQ instrument(s) only within the scope defined in the invoice.

The license permits administration of the questionnaire:

  • on paper or electronically only if explicitly approved,
  • distributed one or more times to respondents within the approved project period,
  • collected and scored by the licensed User.

Any use beyond the approved scope — including increased sample size, extended project duration, additional languages, reproduction, publication, or online / electronic administration not explicitly approved (Field G) — requires prior written permission from JCQ Center Global ApS and may require a revised license and additional payment.

Sample Size and Use Counting

The approved sample size represents the maximum number of administrations permitted under the license, including all distributions and re-distributions.

One license use is considered consumed when a participant first accesses the questionnaire, regardless of whether the questionnaire is completed.

If the required sample size increases beyond the approved limit, a new request and additional license are required.

Distribution and Reproduction Restrictions

Full Karasek Questionnaires, JCQ / JCQ2, scales, or individual item texts may not be:

  • distributed publicly,
  • reproduced,
  • published,
  • emailed,
  • uploaded to websites,
  • included in other questionnaires,
  • or otherwise made publicly available,

except as expressly permitted in the project-specific license.

JCQ Center Global instruments may not be sent to respondents by email or as PDF attachments.

All permitted uses must always include the required copyright notice:

Publications and Use of Items

Users may publish results, analyses, and aggregated findings derived from the JCQ instruments.

Full item texts may not be published in any context.

Where a reproduction license has been granted, one specific sample item may be included in a dissertation or thesis appendix for illustrative purposes only.

The purpose is to demonstrate the characteristics of the instrument, not to reproduce a usable scale.

For academic and scientific publications, approved keywords may be used instead of item texts.

JCQ Center Global provides keywords that capture the core meaning of each item without violating copyright.

Online and Electronic Administration

Online or electronic administration of JCQ instruments is not permitted unless:

  1. explicitly requested in Field G of the Usage Request Information Form,
  2. approved in writing by JCQ Center Global ApS,
  3. reflected in the issued invoice / license confirmation, and
  4. any applicable additional conditions and fees have been accepted and paid.

Electronic use is permitted only:

  • within the approved sample size and project period, and
  • in the specific survey hosting system approved in the license.

Data Provision and Quality Control

Upon request, Users agree to provide anonymized JCQ data and related demographic data for scientific quality assurance, reliability testing, and international standardization purposes.

Data must be fully anonymous.

Projects are identified only by country and two-digit ISCO industry code.

Translations

Translations of JCQ instruments into other languages require:

  1. prior written approval by Professor Emeritus R. Karasek through a signed translation agreement with JCQ Center Global ApS, and
  2. submission of the translated materials to JCQ Center Global ApS.

All translation rights remain with the instrument author and copyright holder.

Alteration of Instruments

Alteration of items, scales, or instructions may affect the validity and reliability of the instrument and is not permitted without prior written approval.

If only part of an instrument is administered, the User must clearly state this limitation and its potential impact on validity in any publication.

User Guides and Research Proposals

The User’s Guide and the instrument itself are separate copyrighted works.

For research proposals or grant applications, Users may purchase the User’s Guide, which includes:

  • one sample copy of the instrument, and
  • approved keywords for scale review.

Payment and Fulfillment

Payment of the license fee must be received by JCQ Center Global ApS before permission to use the instrument is granted.

License fees follow local VAT rules: EU licensees should provide a valid VAT number (if available); otherwise, VAT applies. Non-EU licensees are not charged VAT.

Licenses, reproduction permissions, and digital materials are non-refundable.

Limitation of Liability

JCQ Center Global ApS shall not be liable for any use or misuse of the licensed materials.

The User assumes full responsibility for administration, data collection, and use of the instruments.
